HT3. Can You Count Them Without Making a Mistake?

Take a close look at the picture above.

At first glance, the answer may seem obvious. You might quickly count 11 or 12 snacks and feel confident that you have found them all.

But this little visual puzzle is designed to make counting more difficult than it looks.

How Many Snacks Can You See?

Before reading any further, take a moment to count them yourself.

Try not to guess.

Start at the top of the plate and slowly work your way around. Then count them again in the opposite direction.

Pay particular attention to the center and edges, where some of the snacks can be easy to overlook because of the way they are positioned.

If you initially counted 11 or 12, you’re certainly not alone. When several similar objects are grouped closely together, our brains naturally tend to recognize the overall pattern rather than carefully distinguish every individual item.

That is one reason simple observation puzzles can be surprisingly challenging.

Why Is the Puzzle So Easy to Miscount?

The snacks overlap and sit close together, making it difficult to separate each one at a glance.

When we look at a group of similar objects, our eyes often scan the arrangement quickly instead of examining every individual shape. If one snack is partially hidden or blends into the surrounding objects, it can easily be missed.

Counting from a different direction can also help.

Try moving clockwise around the plate. Then start again from the opposite side. If your total changes, that’s a good sign that you may have skipped or counted an object twice.

The trick isn’t necessarily to count faster. It’s to slow down.

The Answer: There Are 14 Snacks

If you’ve finished counting, here’s the answer:

There are 14 snacks in total.

So if you counted 14 before reaching this point, congratulations—you managed to spot every item.

If you got 11, 12, or 13, don’t worry. The arrangement makes it surprisingly easy to overlook one or more snacks.

The important part of this puzzle is not simply getting the correct number. It’s seeing how easily our eyes can make assumptions when several similar objects appear together.

How Did You Do?

Now it’s your turn to reveal your result.

Did you see 11, 12, 13, or all 14 on your first attempt?

Leave your answer in the comments and share the puzzle with a friend or family member. Don’t tell them the answer—let’s see how quickly they can find all 14!

Sometimes, the best way to solve a visual puzzle isn’t to look harder.

It’s simply to slow down and look more carefully.
